How to Make Your LinkedIn Profile Stand Out to International IT Recruiters

Tips from Our HR & Recruitment Consultant, Gozde

Working in recruitment, one of the questions I get asked most is:

“I’ve been applying for jobs, but I don’t hear back from recruiters. What am I doing wrong?”

Honestly, in many cases, nothing is wrong with your experience.

The issue is that recruiters simply can’t find you.

At Wypoon Technologies, we recruit IT professionals from all over the world for companies in the Netherlands. Every day, I spend hours searching on LinkedIn for Software Engineers, DevOps Engineers, AI Specialists, Cloud Architects, Data Engineers, and many other technical roles.

Something I’ve noticed over the years is that many highly experienced professionals have LinkedIn profiles that don’t really show what they’re capable of. Their CV might be excellent, but if I can’t find them in a search, I never get the chance to read it.

Your LinkedIn profile isn’t just an online CV anymore. It’s usually the first place recruiters look, and often it’s the reason we decide whether to reach out.

Here are a few things I always recommend.

Don't just write your job title

I often see headlines that simply say:

Software Engineer

There’s nothing wrong with that, but it doesn’t tell much.

Instead, use the space to highlight your expertise.

For example:

Senior Java Developer | Spring Boot | Kubernetes | AWS

or

Data Engineer | Azure | Databricks | Python | Spark

As recruiters, we only spend a few seconds looking at a profile before deciding whether to open it.

Think about how recruiters search

This is something many people don’t realise.

When I search on LinkedIn Recruiter, I don’t type someone’s name.

I search for technologies, programming languages, frameworks, certifications and job titles.

If you’ve worked with Kubernetes for three years but never mention it on your profile, I probably won’t find you when I’m searching for Kubernetes engineers.

It sounds simple, but it makes a huge difference.

Your About section is not a copy of your CV

Your About section is where I want to understand who you are.

  • What do you enjoy working on?
  • What type of projects interest you?
  • What industries have you worked in?
  • Where do you want your career to go?

You don’t need to write an essay. Just write something that sounds like you.

Talk about achievements, not only responsibilities

Instead of writing:

“Responsible for Azure migration.”

Try explaining what you actually achieved.

For example:

“Migrated more than 150 applications to Azure and helped reduce deployment times by 40%.”

Real examples tell a much stronger story.

If you're open to international opportunities, show it

At Wypoon Technologies, we help companies in the Netherlands find international IT talent, so this is something I notice every single day.

Many great candidates have profiles only in their native language, even though they’re fully open to working abroad. That’s a huge missed opportunity.

If you’re interested in global roles, I’d recommend:

  • Writing your profile in English.
  • Mentioning if you’re open to relocation or remote work.
  • Highlighting international projects or multicultural teams.
  • Listing internationally recognised certifications.

It makes it much easier for recruiters from different countries to understand your background and to reach out.

Keep your Skills section updated

It may seem like a small thing, but it matters.

Every relevant technology or skill you add gives recruiters another way to find your profile.

Take a few minutes every now and then to update it.

You don't have to post every day

A lot of people think they need to become LinkedIn influencers.

You really don’t.

Commenting on posts, sharing an interesting article, celebrating a project or a certification, or even congratulating someone on a new role is enough to keep your profile active.

Build your network before you need it

One piece of advice I always give is not to wait until you’re looking for a job to start networking.

  • Connect with recruiters.
  • Stay in touch with former colleagues.
  • Follow companies you’re interested in.
  • Join conversations in your field.

A strong network often creates opportunities when you least expect them.

Don't forget the basics

Before you close your profile, check these:

✔ Professional photo

✔ Clear headline

✔ Updated experience

✔ Relevant skills

✔ Current location

✔ Contact information

They’re small details, but together they make your profile look complete.

Final thoughts

After working with candidates from many different countries, I’ve realised something.

The people who receive the most recruiter messages aren’t always the most experienced.

Very often, they’re simply the easiest to find.

You already have the experience. Make sure your LinkedIn profile reflects it.

You never know who might be searching for someone with your skills tomorrow.
