Glenn from the Philippines: "A new adventure begins with a good tailwind."

Moving across the world is a big step. Doing it together with your family makes the adventure even bigger.

For Glenn Olazo, a 35-year-old father from the Philippines, moving to the Netherlands meant starting a completely new chapter, both personally and professionally. Today, Glenn works as a Senior Angular Developer at Wypoon, currently on assignment at KPN.

Looking back, he describes the experience as transformative: a journey that took his family outside their comfort zone, but also brought them closer together.

Preparing for a new life abroad

An international move requires preparation, especially when relocating as a family. For Glenn, getting organized early was an important part of making the transition smoother.

“We focused heavily on gathering all necessary legal and personal documents early on, researching Dutch culture and lifestyle, and mentally preparing ourselves for the big change.”

But preparing documents was only one part of the journey. Moving to another country also meant getting ready for a completely different environment, culture and way of life.

From the Philippines to the Netherlands with Wypoon

Throughout the relocation, Glenn was supported by the Wypoon team. From preparing documents in the Philippines to getting settled after arriving in the Netherlands, he describes the process as smooth and well structured.

“Wypoon was incredibly supportive throughout the entire journey. Their relocation process was smooth and well-structured, guiding me step-by-step from processing my documents back in the Philippines all the way through our arrival and setup in the Netherlands.”  That guidance also helped with the many practical aspects that come with building a life in a new country.

The paperwork and logistics felt straightforward thanks to the step-by-step support from the team. Setting up a Dutch bank account and dealing with the initial costs was also hassle-free. Housing, however, brought a bigger challenge.
Like many newcomers to the Netherlands, Glenn experienced the difficulties of the Dutch housing market. With support throughout the search, the family eventually found a place they were happy with – right in the center of Breda

A journey for the whole family

For Glenn, relocation was much more than a professional opportunity. It was also a major change for his family. “It has been a transformative experience for me and my family.”
Moving abroad meant stepping outside their comfort zone and pursuing a dream at the same time. Going through that experience together has brought the family closer and given Glenn a strong sense of personal growth and confidence.

What Glenn would put on a Dutch tile?

‘A new adventure begins with a good tailwind!’

Of course, life in the Netherlands comes with some noticeable differences compared with the Philippines.

One of the things Glenn appreciates most is the Dutch approach to work-life balance. The focus on family time and personal well-being has stood out to him since moving here.  Transportation has also been a big adjustment. Cycling and using the Dutch public transport system are now part of everyday life – quite a change from the way he used to commute back home.

And then there is perhaps the most typically Dutch topic of all: the weather.  Coming from the tropical climate of the Philippines, getting used to cooler temperatures, rain and the famously unpredictable Dutch weather has definitely required some adaptation.

Trust the Process

For other international professionals considering making the same move, Glenn’s advice is practical: start preparing early and don’t be afraid to accept help along the way.

“Start your paperwork as early as possible, stay open-minded, and don’t hesitate to lean on your employer’s relocation support. Trust the process – it might feel overwhelming at first, but it is entirely worth it.”

It is a message that reflects his own journey: moving across the world can feel enormous at the beginning, but with preparation and the right people supporting you, the transition becomes much easier.

"Een nieuw avontuur begint met een goede meewind"

If Glenn could capture his experience with Wypoon and in the Netherlands on a traditional Dutch tile, he already knows exactly what it would say:
“Een nieuw avontuur begint met een goede meewind.”
A new adventure begins with a good tailwind.

For Glenn, the phrase represents what relocation has meant to him. Moving across the globe is a massive journey, but having strong support behind you can feel like a tailwind – helping to push you forward towards your goals.

And for Glenn and his family, that tailwind helped turn a major international move into the beginning of an entirely new chapter.
